Jessica Chan

Registered Dietitian

I am a registered dietitian with over 10 years of experience, holding licensure with both the College of Health Care Professionals of British Columbia (CHCPBC) in Canada and the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) in the United Kingdom. I completed my undergraduate studies at the University of Toronto and earned a Postgraduate Diploma in Dietetics from the University of Ulster.

Throughout my career, I have worked across a range of clinical settings, including private clinics and public hospitals in both Hong Kong and Canada. My practice spans a wide variety of specialties, including chronic disease management, oncology, and gastrointestinal health. I also have extensive experience supporting individuals with disordered eating, emotional eating, and mental health conditions, helping them to foster a healthier, more balanced relationship with food.

Fluent in both English and Cantonese, I am passionate about providing culturally sensitive, evidence-based care to diverse populations. My approach is compassionate, client-centered, and grounded in the belief that food is not only nourishment, but a key component of overall well-being.

What is the difference between a Registered Dietitian and a Nutritionist in BC?

Yes, most major extended health benefit plans in Canada—including Sun Life, Manulife, Canada Life, and Blue Cross—cover services provided by a Registered Dietitian. At René Health, we offer direct billing for over 40 providers to make your recovery as seamless as possible. We recommend checking your specific "Paramedical Services" coverage to see your yearly maximum.

You do not need a doctor’s referral to book an appointment with our Registered Dietitian. You can schedule your initial assessment directly through our website. However, please note that a small number of insurance providers may require a physician’s note for reimbursement; we recommend a quick call to your provider to confirm.

Your initial consultation typically lasts 60 minutes and is focused on understanding your "whole-body" health. We will review your medical history, current eating habits, and lab work to identify the root cause of your concerns. Instead of a restrictive meal plan, you’ll leave with a collaborative, sustainable roadmap and preliminary goals to start your journey toward better health

Absolutely. Registered Dietitians are specifically trained in Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) to help manage and even improve symptoms of chronic conditions. We provide specialized support for digestive health (IBS/IBD), blood sugar stability, cholesterol management, and inflammation, creating a nutrition plan that integrates with your overall medical care.
